Neuroplasticity

Discuss how understanding the principles of neuroplasticity benefits people

Understand the principles of neuroplasticity benefits people because what we think and feel about our abilities and our beliefs ’success’ and ‘failure’ influence our outcomes. Know that the brain is capable of changing, malleable and physically capable of building knowledge, and that intelligence is not predeterminded helps motive people to study or change behaviours.

Discuss how you might engage with the principals of neuroplasticity for your own benefit

For my own benefit I will believe that I can succeed and take time to practice to new skills and practice old skills so that they do not begin to fade.

What are some of the ways to increase your neuroplasticity?

Repetition and practice is one of the ways to increase you neuroplasicity. Putting information in context also helps with the formation of stronger neural connections and tap into already-existing pathways.

Growth Mindset

Discuss what it is and why it is relevant

Growth mindset is a belief that talents can be developed, though hard work, good strategies, and input from others. When compared with a fixed mindset, where the belief is that a talent is an innate gift, those with a growth mindset tend to achieve more. This is because with a growth mindset individuals worry less about looking smart and put more energy into learning. The understanding of growth mindset and the processes for putting them into practice benefits individuals by giving them a richer sense of who they are, what they stand for, and they want to move forward.

In this exploration, did anything surprise you? Change for you?

A “pure” growth mindset doesn’t exist; everyone is actually a mixture of a fixed and growth mindset, and that mixture continually evolves with experience.

How will you integrate growth mindset into your learning journey?

I will integrate a growth mindset into my learning by not just rewarding myself of the effort of reaching a goal, but also my learning and progress. I will look at the way I have achieved these things, such as trying new strategies, seeking help from others, and capitalising on my setbacks to move forward effectively.
